Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: 3 July 2026
This policy forms part of the Terms of Service. It exists to keep the API fast, fair and available for everyone. It comes down to: use the data in your own products and workflows, don't try to walk off with the database, and don't present reference data as a ruling.
Prohibited
- Reconstructing the corpus. Bulk-scraping, crawling or systematically enumerating the classification database — including spreading requests across keys, accounts or IP addresses to evade limits. Bulk export beyond your plan's documented batch limits is an Enterprise feature; using the API to rebuild the dataset is prohibited at every tier.
- Reselling raw responses. Redistributing or reselling raw API responses as a standalone or competing data product. Embedding results inside your own product for your own customers is fine; shipping our database is not. Redistribution requires a written data-licence agreement — [email protected].
- Unverified determinations. Using the API as the sole basis for real-time legal or customs determinations without independent verification. The service is reference data with provenance — not a binding ruling, and not professional advice.
- Circumvention. Bypassing or attempting to bypass authentication, rate limits, quotas or plan gating; probing, scanning or testing the vulnerability of the service without written permission; sharing API keys between legal entities.
- Anything unlawful. Any use that violates applicable law, including sanctions and export-control law.
Enforcement
Breaches may lead to throttling, suspension or termination of access under §8 of the Terms of Service. Where practical we'll contact you first — most problems are integration bugs, and we'd rather help you fix them.
