Tariff Lexicon (operated by Tariff Lexicon Ltd, registered in England and Wales [Company No: XXXXXXXX]) provides programmatic and web access to product-classification reference data: HS, CN, TARIC and HTSUS codes and other classification systems, the crosswalks between them, duty rates, and mappings to regulatory obligations (REACH, RoHS, WEEE, EPR, batteries, dangerous goods and others), each fact carrying source, version and confidence.
Reference data, not advice. The service is not legal, customs or tax advice and is not a substitute for a binding tariff ruling, a customs broker or professional advice. Classifications and obligations must be independently verified before you rely on them for a customs declaration, regulatory filing or product decision.
2. Accounts and API keys
- Provide accurate information; one account per legal entity (add colleagues as members of your organization rather than sharing credentials).
- Keep API keys secret. You are responsible for all activity under your keys; revoke a key immediately from your dashboard if you suspect it is compromised.
- Do not share keys with, or resell access to, anyone outside your organization.
3. Acceptable use
Use of the service is subject to the Acceptable Use Policy, which forms part of these terms.
4. Plans, payment and billing
- Paid subscriptions are billed in advance, monthly or annually, via Stripe. Prices are shown on the pricing page; VAT is added where applicable.
- Subscriptions renew automatically. You can cancel any time from the billing portal; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We do not refund partial periods.
- Annual plans are a 12-month commitment billed up front.
- If a payment fails we retry, notify you, and may downgrade the account to the Free plan if payment is not completed.
- We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice by email; changes apply from your next billing period.
5. Data and intellectual property
- The underlying classification codes originate from public authorities (WCO, EU, UN, USITC and others). The compiled database — its structure, crosswalks, enrichments, provenance layer and software — is owned by or licensed to Tariff Lexicon Ltd.
- You own your inputs. We claim no rights over the queries you send, and we don't use your query content for anything except serving and metering your requests.
- You may use API responses within your own products, systems and workflows. You may not resell or redistribute the raw data as a standalone competing data product — see the Acceptable Use Policy. Data-licence agreements for redistribution are available: [email protected].
6. Service levels
- Free and Starter — reasonable commercial efforts; no uptime commitment.
- Business — 99.5% monthly uptime target (a target, not a credit-bearing SLA).
- Enterprise — as negotiated in the applicable order form.
Live service health is published at /status.html. Planned maintenance is announced there in advance where practical.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law: our total aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with the service is capped at the fees you paid in the three months preceding the event giving rise to the claim; and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of business, or for decisions made in reliance on the data (see §1 — the data is reference material requiring independent verification). Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.
8. Termination
You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access immediately for a breach of these terms or the Acceptable Use Policy, or for non-payment, giving notice where practical. On termination your API keys stop working; account data is deleted on the schedule in the Privacy Policy.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For material changes we will give account holders at least 30 days' notice by email before the new terms take effect. Continued use after the effective date is acceptance.
